“In Hamburg we see diversity as an opportunity. The coexistence of people with different cultures, perspectives and lifestyles is an enrichement for our society. The basis for this is tolerance and a peaceful, respectul coexistence. The campaign of the BID Reeperbahn+ makes an important contribution to this colorful hustle and bustle in St. Pauli.”
Peter Tschentscher – mayor of Hamburg
Violence sucks! Party peacefully! A new campaign from LIEB SEIN!
All over Germany, it currently feels as though violence in nightlife is becoming an ever greater challenge. We in St. Pauli want to counteract this with a participatory poster campaign that you can easily support.
These are our goals: We want to…
- show that really cool people are peaceful
- show what men and women can and should do
- show that St. Pauli is colorful and free and won’t let that be taken away.
This is us:
The initiators are BID Reeperbahn+ , IG St. Pauli, and the Kult Kieztouren team (led by Fabian Zahrt, Vanity Trash and Olivia Jones). The campaign is supported by many well-known neighborhood stores (from Alberseck to Wunderbar). Our campaign can also be seen on the huge LED screens of the clubhouse and the stages at Spielbudenplatz on the Reeperbahn. We enlisted the help of bouncers from well-known neighborhood bars and friends to create the posters and motifs. These include Marco from Lehmitz on the Reeperbahn, Raffi from Albers Eck on Albersplatz, and Steffi and Jan from Olivia Jones Bar and Olivia’s Wilde Jungs, respectively. The poster motifs are based on situations that our Kult Kieztouren guides and bouncers experience time and time again. We work specifically with clichés to combat clichés and toxic role models. Not with a raised index finger, but with clear language, provocation, and humor.
Some examples of slogans are:
- Short fuse, small dick (Kurze Zündschnur, kleiner Pimmel)
- “Ehrenmänner” stay cool (Ehrenmänner bleiben cool)
- Contract chiller (Auftragschiller)
How you can support us
- Download our campaign package
- Post the images on social media
- Link or tag @kultkieztouren and @reeperbahnplus on Instagram (also as a collaboration partner)
- Print posters and hang them up (the print data is adapted to Flyeralarm’s requirements so that you can have the posters printed easily and cheaply in small quantities).
- You know people who think a little rowdiness is part of a party? Talk to them about our campaign.
Is it escalating? Here’s how to react correctly: Many people worry too much. The most important points in brief: Perpetrators want drama and don’t react reasonably. They are often drunk, hyped up, and may even have a weapon with them. The risk is incalculable. So don’t play the hero. Leave it to the professionals. And don’t wait until the situation escalates completely. If someone is being abusive, talk to others, ask for help, call the police (our guys and girls at Davidwache do a great job!). You’re doing the right thing and helping to prevent something worse from happening.
⚡ Is it escalating? Quick tips for emergencies:
- Avoid trouble and don’t respond to abuse!
- Feeling unsafe? Talk to others, e.g., bouncers, ask for help, call the police!
- Seeing an escalation? Don’t get involved, talk to others, e.g., bouncers, call 110!
Thanks for your support!

Campaign for more tolerance!
The “BE NICE!”- campaign was initiated by the BID Reeperbahn+ (an association of property owners and business operators) which has been working since 2008 to develop the entertainment district of St. Pauli through various measures. The aim is to promote peaceful and liberal coexistence in the Reeperbahn area and to send a clear message against attacks based on racism, homophobia and sexism not only within Hamburg but also beyond its borders.
The slogan “BE NICE!” ist not only spread in English but also in five other languages (German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Turkish) and is supplemented by the statements “No Racism, No Homophobia, No Sexism”.
In numerous motifs that were created during the farmers market on St. Pauli, residents and visitors strongly remind to treat each other with respect so that the cultural diversity in Hamburgs most colorful district and beyond can continue to thrive.
The latest poster features the mayor of Hamburg Peter Tschentscher with drag queen Valery Pearl. The Image was taken by photographer Andreas Muhme in the “David Quelle” pub on Davidstraße at the request of the mayor.
“This campaign is our contribution to preserving our distrct as a unique place that stands for unrestricted enjoyment. Unrestricted for all! We are very pleased with the great support from the First Mayor Peter Tschentscher.”
